Spring Into Action

There’s a phenomenon I find baffling and fascinating at the same time. We all do this. Some of us have made this a habit. Others dabble in it. And others have made the hurdle and never looked back.

I’m talking about saying one thing and doing another.

It goes something like this: “I’ve set a goal and I am waiting to get started.”

When I hear this from people, my response is: “So, what are you waiting for?”

Waiting for action.
Waiting for something to happen to us so we can act.
Waiting for the right circumstances in order to make a choice.
Waiting for life to take us to the next place.

And like the beloved Dr. Seuss said in hi famous book Oh the Places You Will Go, many times people go to “The Waiting Place.” And then live there for the rest of their lives.

I have learned two important life lessons from my mentor Jack Canfield.

1. We have to take 100% responsibility for our lives and
2. If we want to accomplish a goal we have to take action.

Take 100% responsibility? WOW! That’s a big one.

Many of us tend to blame someone or something for our shortcomings, and not even realize we’re doing it! Do a Blame Check with yourself, I challenge you!

You’ll be stunned at how much you assign fault to something outside yourself. I use the Blame Check and have gained great self-awareness that allows me to make sustainable changes in my life. Through my awareness, I learn to raise the bar and take 100% responsibility for my life.

Instead of pointing the finger out there, we have to realize that in every moment of every day we make choices. We choose what are our priorities in life, what we eat, how we communicate with those we love, how we stand up for ourselves, and so on. If “life” is not going in the direction we want it to, then we can choose again and create a new possibility.

Often, it isn’t life that’s not cooperating-it’s us.

In other words, when choosing the next step on our path, we have to… take action.

Daily Action

1. Effectively working with a “To Do List” helps me to stay focused, move into action and make the best use of my time. I use a simple Word document on my computer and at the end of every day I will remove all of the things that I have accomplished and create additional bullets for the tasks I need to do.

2. I arrange the tasks in order of importance-for example if I am on deadline or someone has asked me to do something-I will list these items first. Depending on the size of the task, I usually do not list more than 5 priorities for each day. Although I may have 20 or more items on my list, the priority items are the ones I focus on first.

3. I also set a targeted amount of uninterrupted focused time to accomplish each tasks. This means no e-mails, phone calls or interruptions of any kind.

4. As I begin each day, I start with the priorities, and possibly the most difficult, and get them off my schedule as soon as possible. One by one as I mark them off, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.

What I have learned is that we waste a lot of time worrying and thinking about our “to do’s” rather than acting on them. If we act on them, even those items we don’t like we will get them done and as a result create more “free” time to spend with our family or our favorite pass time.

Now let’s look at the bigger picture.

Life Action

We learned from the highly acclaimed movie and book, The Secret that the principles of the Law of Attraction are:

Ask, Believe and Receive.

This means that we have to ask our higher source, God, the Universe, or own terms, for that which we desire. Then we believe with all of our being that what we want to occur will happen, and be ready to receive it.

What do I mean by believing? Visualize ourselves doing exactly what we want to happen; when we think negative thoughts, replace them with positive ones; meditate and pray for God to reveal our greatest good for the goal at hand.

However, the key to receiving is understanding the old adage, “Work like it all depends on you and pray (believe) like it depends on God.” As co-creators with the Universe, we have to take action in order for the Universe to reveal the gifts that are in store for us.

Only when we are in motion is God able to steer us in the right direction. Our life is about learning and we have to take an active role in order to attain our goals.

Here is the process I use to Spring into Action:

1. Become absolutely clear as to what we want-we know this has been accomplished when we can actually see it, feel it and taste it.

2. Use the Six Steps to Clarity and Focus (Breathe and become still, Go to gratitude, Ask for What you need, Let worries speed by, Listen to what is revealed, Write it down and take action) outlined in “Minutes that Make a Difference” article of the October 2007 issue of www.UltimateHealthLiving.com e-zine.

3. Take Action!

The Universe is waiting to respond by giving you direction, insight, clarity and all that you need to become your Ultimate best. UHL
