The most powerful turning point in my life was when I discovered that God was not something out there to only call on for help when needed or to fear, but that God lives and breathes within me and I’m co-creator of my Universe. I was confused thinking that I was a human who from time to time had a spiritual experience.
The reality is that we are one hundred percent spirit having a human experience; therefore, God—Source—is always present, always loving.
As a result, I have come to understand that the answers to our most burning questions and the turmoil we face lie within each of us. We simply have to learn to access, listen, trust and follow our own inner wisdom. I’ve also learned that this truth will help us to overcome our mental and emotional blocks, negative self-talk and perceived fears, which is the root of our “hurting” in the first place.
In the past I spent a lot of time worrying and fearful of what “might” happen. The fact is that ninety-nine percent of the time our fears never become a reality. They never happen, but we get catch up in the drama instead of staying focused on the intention of what we want.
That is why it is so important to consciously be aware of what we are focusing on and giving our attention to. You have likely heard of the Law of Attraction, which derives from the Law of Vibration.
The Law of Vibration is a Universal Law that state “everything in the Universe is in a constant state of vibration. Everything, whether solid, liquid or gas is made up of energy and all forms of energy are constantly moving and vibrating. Our entire Universe and everything within it—seen and unseen—is a vibrating mass of atoms and subatomic particles.” The same principles of vibration in the physical world apply to our thoughts, feelings, and desires.
Rates of vibration are called frequencies and the higher the frequency, the more powerful the force. Positive thoughts, feelings, and emotions are at a high frequency, while negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions are at a low frequency.
One of the best explanations of the Law of Attraction was written by my mentor Jack Canfield in his book “Key to Living the Law of Attraction.” He states, “The Law of Attraction says that you will attract into your life whatever you focus on. Whatever you give your energy and attention to will come back to you. So, if you stay focused on the good and positive things in your life, you will automatically attract more good and positive things into your life. If you are focused upon lack or negativity, then that is what will be attracted into your life.”
“You are always in a state of creation. You always have been. You are creating your reality in every moment of every day. You are creating your future with every single thought: either consciously or subconsciously.”
“Here’s how it works: Like attracts like. If you are feeling excited, enthusiastic, passionate, happy, joyful, appreciative, or abundant, then you are sending out positive energy. On the other hand, if you are feeling bored, anxious, stressed out, angry, resentful, or sad, you are sending out negative energy. The Universe, through the Law of Attraction, will respond enthusiastically to both of these vibrations. It doesn’t decide which one is better for you, it just responds to whatever energy you are creating, and it gives you more of the same.”
As you begin to implement the principles and techniques provided in this book, it will be critical for you be consciously aware of the intention of your frequency, your vibration. I have learned to literally catch myself when I’m in a negative mode of creating and shift my energy to the positive. Living Inside-Out is about realizing that we can’t create happiness if we are caught up in how negatively our spouse or friend treated us, or we can’t create a healthy body if we are focused on how overweight we are, and we can’t create prosperity if we are thinking about lack.
Our intention has to be focused on the solution!
Jack says “Think of it this way—it’s a lot like transmitting and receiving radio waves. Your frequency has to match the frequency of what you want to receive. You can’t tune your radio to 98.7 on your FM dial and expect to get a station broadcasting on 103.3. It just won’t happen. Your energy has to synchronize with, or match, the energy frequency of the sender. So, you have to keep your vibration tuned to a positive frequency in order to attract positive energy back to you.”
Understanding the power of our focused intention can mean the difference between a life of lack, hardship, fear, anxiety and struggle, or a life filled with joy, satisfaction, profound peace, limitless prosperity and fulfillment.
When I became clearly aware of the focused intention of my vibrational energy is when my goals began to actualize. When I was focused on what wasn’t working I would become more discouraged, more frustrated and more challenged. When I kept focused on the direction I wanted to move, I had more clarity of the next right move, the right person would show up to help, the next idea would appear.
How did I shift my focus? I learned to catch myself in the midst of when my thoughts were turning negatively away from what I wanted to bring into my life, I would consciously shift my thoughts to the positive and what was possible. I would refocus my thoughts in the direction I wanted to move.
So, when negative thoughts popped into my mind about how my business was going to fail, or how I was sure to run out of money, or how the love of my life was going to leave me like all the rest, I would stop, get out of the past and future, stay in the present—the now—and move to being grateful for what I had in the present moment.
When we are thinking negative there is no room for us to figure out a solution and create new possibilities. We can either spend our time as a victim of circumstance or shift to discover new possibilities.

It is one of the most important inside-out life lessons I’ve learned. We have to be aware of where our thoughts and actions are leading us and give ourselves permission to choose again when we are not headed in the direction that serves us.
So when we are faced with what appears to be a crazy and chaotic world inside our own mind and/or around us, how do we keep our focused intention in check?
How to keep your focused intention on a positive frequency…
- Be Aware of Your Thoughts and Actions. Be aware of your thoughts and actions when facing your own views of your body image, health, intelligence, or ability, as well as when confronting challenges with loved ones, co-workers, finances, career… if you are negatively creating, shift to the positive.
- Focus on what is Possible. There is a silver lining in every situation; instead of focusing on the problem, be open to what is possible and find a solution.
- Define Your Purpose and Your Dreams. Identify what you are passionate about and from there you will find your purpose and how to fulfill your dreams.
- Create a Support Team. Surround yourself with those who will support and encourage you, not those who bring you down.
- Stay in the Gap. Prayer and meditation are essential to tapping in to your divine guidance. When praying and meditating focus on the gaps between your thoughts, this is the most direct connection to Source.
- Don’t Think, Feel. Be in tune with your feelings, your emotions are the true guide to what you are creating, positive or negative.
Your Feelings Are Your Guide!
How we feel at any given time is a direct response to our connection with Source energy, to our vibrational field. Our emotions always give us a clear understanding of the direction of our vibration, our focused intention.
If we are negatively creating, then we will move away from the direction of our goals. Our emotions and feelings are the true guide of what we are attracting, we attract whether positive or negative.
When we become full aware of our emotional feeling, we become aware of your dominate vibration. When we feel negative, unhappy, stressed, angry… we become in tune as to what our feelings and emotions are and gain the awareness that a shift in our focus intention needs to occur. Then we can consciously move our focused intention to the joy and happiness we want to create in our life. UHL
